This page, along with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy explains the official terms under which Change My Name (“we”, “us”, “our”) provides services to you. These services include preparing and sending your Deed Poll and any other related services offered on our website at changemyname.org (the “Website”).
By placing an order with us, you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions (“Terms”). If you do not accept these Terms, along with our Privacy and Cookie Policies, you will not be able to use our services.

1. Acceptance Guarantee

We guarantee that a Deed Poll issued by us will be accepted by UK public bodies such as:

  • HM Passport Office
  • The DVLA
  • Other UK government departments

Refunds: If a UK public body refuses your Deed Poll, and the circumstances in Section 2 do not apply, we will provide a full refund

2. Guarantee Exceptions

Our Guarantee does not apply in the following cases:

  • You try to use the Deed Poll outside the UK.
  • You are not a British national or do not hold a British passport.
  • You’re changing a child’s name without the consent of all individuals with parental responsibility.
  • You fail to notify the appropriate authorities of your name change.
  • You do not start using your new name immediately.
  • Your application contains false or incorrect information.
  • Your Deed Poll is not signed or witnessed correctly.
  • You do not submit your Deed Poll to agencies within twelve (12) months of it being executed.
  • You provide incorrect or incomplete documents to the organisation you’re notifying.
  • The organisation cannot process the name change for technical reasons.
  • Your chosen name is deemed inappropriate by the organisation.
  • You are detained under the Mental Health Act or lack the capacity to change your name.
  • You fail to provide us with a written refusal letter from the organisation that rejected your Deed Poll.
  • You do not give us enough time to verify the refusal and help resolve the issue.

3. Right to Refuse an Application

We reserve the right to refuse your application if:

  • We believe your new name is intended for fraudulent purposes.
  • The change is unlawful or promotes hate, discrimination, or unlawful activity.
  • You are applying for a child and the new name is inappropriate.
  • The name contains symbols, is excessively long, or is likely to be rejected by UK public bodies.

4. What to Expect (The Process)

If your application is accepted and your address is in the UK:

  • Applications received by 3:00 pm on a working day will be confirmed by email the same day.
  • Within 2 working days, we will post your documents via 1st Class mail, including:
    • Your Deed Poll
    • Any duplicate copies you ordered
    • Instructions on signing and witnessing

5. Cancellations, Corrections & Refunds

  • Before Shipping: If you cancel before your order is shipped, we will refund you minus a £20.00 processing fee.
  • After Shipping: Once shipped you are unable to cancel as this is a personalised product and not refundable if you change your mind.
  • If We Make a Mistake: We will correct and resend your Deed Poll at no cost.
  • If You Made a Mistake: We will correct and resend your documents at the cost of an additional copies order.
  • Refund Method: Refunds will be made using the original payment method, within 30 days of our final decision.

Note: Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

6. Intellectual Property & Confidentiality

  • All content and intellectual property on our Website belongs to us.
  • You may view and print one copy for personal use only. Commercial use, distribution, or modification is prohibited without permission.
  • We will take reasonable steps to keep any information you provide confidential.

7. Liability, Statutory Limits & Governing Law

  • We are not liable for delays or issues caused by Force Majeure, such as:
    • Natural disasters, strikes, war, or government actions
    • Technical failures or system outages
  • We do not guarantee that the Website or its contents are free from errors or viruses.
  • You must not misuse the Website or attempt to gain unauthorised access. Doing so may result in enforcement actions.
  • We are not responsible for:
    • Indirect or consequential losses (e.g., loss of profits or reputation)
    • Any liability exceeding the amount you paid us
    • Losses due to actions you could have reasonably prevented
  • These exclusions apply to breaches of contract, negligence, and statutory duty.

Governing Law:

  • These Terms are governed by English law.
  • Disputes can be resolved in English courts, or in Scottish or Northern Irish courts if you are a resident there.
